Chelsea ‘make move’ to sign striker presented with ‘incredible’ Saudi offer

Chelsea are reportedly making a late summer move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney, who has already received an “incredible” offer from Al-Ahli of the Saudi Pro League.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

The 28-year-old spent the majority of the summer as part of Gareth Southgate‘s Three Lions squad in Germany, where England were gunning for continental glory at Euro 2024.

Despite his goalscoring abilities, Toney found himself behind the likes of Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins in the pecking order on the international stage.

Toney endured a troubling 2023-24 term for Brentford, with the former Peterborough United man banned from competitive matches for eight months due to a breach of FA betting rules.

Returning to the Premier League at the start of the calendar year, Toney managed four top-flight goals in 16 appearances before the conclusion of the campaign.

Chelsea ‘make move’ to sign Brentford’s Toney

According to Sky Sports News, Toney’s four-year stay at Brentford could be coming towards its conclusion before the end of the summer transfer window.

The report claims that Chelsea have made a move to secure the services of the England international, who has repeatedly expressed his desire for a transfer to a ‘bigger’ club.

With just a single year left on his current terms at the Gtech Community Stadium, the Blues would not need to break the bank in order to sign Toney before Friday’s deadline.

As well as the West Londoners, it is understood that Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli are keen on bringing the prolific marksman to the Middle East.

It was reported earlier this week that Toney has agreed personal terms with Al-Ahli, although the chance to remain in the Premier League could deter the striker from switching to Saudi Arabia.

Chelsea’s needs and England future

Despite hitting Wolverhampton Wanderers for six at Molineux in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, it is clear that Chelsea still require another central striker.

Cutting in off the right wing to devastating effect, Noni Madueke was the star of the show for Enzo Maresca‘s troops in the Black Country on the weekend.

With Nicolas Jackson failing to impress on numerous occasions since his move from Villarreal, Toney would represent a solid addition to Chelsea’s striking options.

A move to Stamford Bridge would also keep the forward’s chances of representing England alive, with the Brentford man unlikely to be in Lee Carsley‘s thinking if the 28-year-old was plying his trade the Saudi Pro League.
