Hansi Flick drops hint over Ansu Fati’s Barcelona future

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick indicates he would like to keep 21-year-old attacker Ansu Fati for the 2024-25 season.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has indicated that he will keep Ansu Fati at the club for the 2024-25 campaign.

The Blaugrana have been working to offload players to improve their economic situation so they can register Dani Olmo with La Liga.

Olmo joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig earlier this month but is yet to make his debut due to the issue surrounding his registration.

Barcelona recently sanctioned Ilkay Gundogan‘s return to Man City, before they confirmed the departure of young defender Mikayil Faye.

The Catalan giants are also on the brink of loaning Vitor Roque to Real Betis just seven months after signing him from Athletic Parananese.

There has been a suggestion that Barcelona could also look to offload Fati before the summer transfer window closes on Friday.

Flick discusses Fati plans

Earlier this month, it was reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers, Marseille, Sevilla and Benfica were looking to sign Fati this summer.

There is also a belief that Barcelona hierarchy are keen to loan out the 21-year-old before the transfer window slams shut.

However, Flick has indicated that he wants to keep Fati when asked about the player’s situation following Saturday’s 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao.

Flick told reporters: “I hope that when Ansu returns, he will show the same level as he did in pre-season. We have to take care of him.”

Fati hoping to overcome injury issues

Barcelona had high hopes for Fatu after he broke into the first team at the age of 16, but he has seen his progression curtailed by a series of injuries.

Fati’s persistent injury issues can be traced back to a serious knee injury which kept him sidelined for nearly around 10 months between November 2020 and September 2021.

After struggling to find his best form, Fati was sent out on loan to Brighton & Hobr Albion last season, but he struggled for regular game time due to injury and selection decisions.

Unfortunately for the forward, he experienced more injury frustration in pre-season and has been forced to miss Barcelona’s first two league matches.

If he does remain at Barcelona, Fati will hope he can remain fit for an extended period to vindicate Flick’s desire to keep him at the club.
