Brighton vs Manchester United: Latest Premier League score and updates Marcus Rashford starts

Manchester United travel to Brighton for Saturday’s early Premier League kick off hoping to build on an encouraging victory over Fulham in their opening match of the season. Though the Red Devils only triumphed 1-0, they looked a composed and dominant side especially in possession of the ball.

SURE ODDS BANNER

New forward Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench and combined with fellow substitute Alejandro Garnacho to slot home the only goal of the game and get himself off the mark in his very first outing for United. There were plenty of encouraging signs for boss Erik ten Hag though he will realise that his team were too open to the counter-attack and work needs to be done to shore up the defence.

For their part, Brighton have had an exceptional start to the new season. They travelled to Merseyside and faced Everton at Goodison Park. The Toffees, suffering from a few injuries, never turned up and goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra ensured the Seagulls got off to the best possible start and ended the first gameweek top of the table.

3 mins: Yankuba Minteh is fed down the right wing for Brighton and gets to the byline before the tackle comes in. His cross flies into the box but Andre Onana has it covered well enough.

Bright start for the hosts.

Brighton vs Man Utd

Almost time for kick at the Amex Stadium. Just one change from either team with Billy Gilmour slotting into Brighton’s midfield.

After wins for the Seagulls and United last week they will both be confident of building on that start and earning three points today. United’s pressing will be a key factor in their performance. If it’s as strong and efficient as their game against Fulham then Brighton will have a tough time of things.

But, if the hosts can break through the press they’ll find space to get at the United defence and Joao Pedro, Danny Welbeck and Kaoru Mitoma will need their shooting boots on to take advantage.

This game promises excitement and intrigued. The players will be heading out onto the pitch and kick off is up next…

Erik ten Hag on facing Brighton

“We have to improve and there are elements that should be better. We did a good review of the game [against Fulham].

“We took some problems out, we worked across the week on those problems, so gave them solutions but also focused on our strengths to even build further on those strengths. To go for next win, of course that’s the aim.”

Erik ten Hag on Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho has once again been left out of Manchester United’s matchday squad for the Brighton game having missed out against Fulham too.

There is ongoing speculation that he will be leaving the club this summer after spending the back half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

Erik ten Hag addressed the situation ahead of kick off saying: “He’s here, a choice to make, we have some issues, so we needed a full squad. He’s one of them, he has to compete for his position, we’ll have a look. In the squad, it’s a long season.”

About potential bringing in more players before the end of the window he added: “We will see, we always have to look, it has to be the right option.”

Brighton boss on facing Man Utd

Hurzeler was also asked if facing Manchester United at home was the sort of fixture which makes working in the Premier League so attractive.

He replied: “Honestly, I’m looking forward to every game.

“Of course, Manchester United has a big tradition, big history, big club, and also a big challenge for us, but Goodison Park last Saturday had something special for me and I look forward to every game and especially the first game in front of our loyal supporters, which will be something special.

“The Premier League is so competitive and there are so many great teams so I’m excited about every game.”

Erik ten Hag gives Jadon Sancho transfer update as Manchester United exit looms

Sancho has been out of favour at Old Trafford, returning from a loan move to Borussia Dortmund last season. The 24-year-old winger has been linked to Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, but the player travelled with the squad to face the Seagulls on Saturday amid a shortage of options.

Ten Hag did not include Sancho on the bench but did urge the player to compete for his place.

Manchester United have wasted billions, but ‘those days are over’

Dan Ashworth, United’s new sporting director, was adamant they would not. It was a point of principle. “Those days are over,” he was heard to say. Another line uttered at the top of Old Trafford was “the gold at the end of the United rainbow is no more” for other clubs.
