Arsenal attacker pricing himself out of move amid Premier League interest?

Arsenal are reportedly struggling to agree a deal with Leicester City for the transfer of Reiss Nelson, who is currently earning £120,000 per week at the Emirates.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Arsenal are reportedly set to face a difficult time as they look to offload Reiss Nelson this summer.

The 24-year-old has fallen behind a number of senior stars in the pecking order at the Emirates, including Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

As a result, Nelson only featured in 15 Premier League matches for Mikel Arteta‘s side during 2023-24, with the attacker making just the single top-flight start.

Overall, the former Feyenoord loanee managed just 23 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners last season, five of which arrived in the Champions League.

Since graduating from the club’s academy in 2017, Nelson has featured 89 times for Arsenal, making the net ripple on eight occasions over a seven-year spell.

Arsenal’s Nelson prices himself out of summer move?

According to The Telegraph, Nelson’s proposed move to a Premier League rival of Arsenal has hit a significant obstacle during this summer’s transfer window.

The report claims that top-flight newcomers Leicester City are keen on a deal for the 24-year-old, who will need to depart from the Emirates to secure regular first-team opportunities.

It is understood that the Gunners and the Foxes were in talks over a deal for Nelson earlier in the summer, but a breakthrough in discussions failed to come to fruition.

Despite this, Steve Cooper‘s side are still believed to be chasing a move for the Arsenal attacker, with the transfer deadline fast approaching.

It is said that Leicester want to agree a loan deal with an obligation to buy, although Nelson’s £120,000-per-week wages are proving to be a major hurdle.

Arsenal are saying difficult goodbyes in 2024

Nelson could become the latest of Arsenal’s academy graduates to permanently move away from the North London club during the 2024 summer window.

The Gunners have already waved goodbye to Emile Smith Rowe, who is now a major part of Marco Silva‘s Fulham plans following a £34m switch across the capital.

Despite failing to make a first-team appearance for Arsenal, Arthur Okonkwo was highly rated at the club before recently securing a move to League One outfit Wrexham.

Unless a switch to Leicester materialises over the next few days, Nelson is likely to be a bench option for Arteta as the Gunners travel to Aston Villa on Saturday evening.
