Liverpool identify Ligue 1 left-back as Andy Robertson replacement?

Liverpool reportedly identify Rennes full-back Adrien Truffert as a potential successor to their current first-choice left-back Andy Robertson.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Liverpool have reportedly identified Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert as a potential target.

Liverpool have experienced a disappointing transfer window, with the Reds still waiting to make their first addition of the summer.

They looked set to secure the signature of Martin Zubimendi until the Real Sociedad midfielder opted to stay put in La Liga.

Despite experiencing disappointment in their pursuit of Zubimendi, the Reds will still be searching to bring in potential reinforcements ahead of August 30.

The Merseyside club are seemingly open to signing a new left-back despite being able to call upon the likes of Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.

Liverpool targeting potential Robertson replacement

Robertson remains Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, but they appear to be drawing up plans to recruit a long-term successor.

According to L’Equipe, the Reds are among several Premier League clubs that are in the race to sign Rennes’ Truffert.

Liverpool’s bitter rivals Manchester United are among Truffert’s suitors, while there is interest from Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The report claims that French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on the player’s progress at Rennes.

Who is Truffert?

After graduating from the Rennes academy, Truffert has gone on to establish himself as a regular fixture in the first-team set-up.

The Belgian-born defender has made 156 competitive appearances for Rennes, contributing six goals and 21 assists.

Truffert was part of Thierry Henry‘s France squad at the 2024 Olympics, starting five of the six matches to help his country become silver medalists.

The 22-year-old recently returned to Rennes training following his Olympic exploits and could feature in Sunday’s home game against Lyon.

Despite the significant interest, Rennes will be keen to retain the services of a player who is under contract until June 2026.
