Transfer news and rumours: Olmo replacement, Kante future, Juve want Edwards

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including RB Leipzig signing Dani Olmo’s replacement and an update on the future of N’Golo Kante.

SURE ODDS BANNER

RB Leipzig have announced the signing of highly-coveted Club Brugge winger Antonio Nusa.

Having allowed Dani Olmo, one of their most prized assets, to move to Barcelona, the Bundesliga outfit have been in the market for a replacement.

Rather than acquire an established star, the Red Bull group have stuck to their standard strategy and moved for a player who they will hope emerge as a star player in the future.

Leipzig have revealed that they have brought in Nusa on a five-year contract, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that a €21m (£18.02m) package, plus add-ons, has been agreed.

Nusa has consistently been linked with a move to the Premier League since the beginning of the year with Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford having both been close to finalising deals.

The 19-year-old departs Club Brugge having contributed seven goals and six assists from his 86 appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Al-Ittihad are seemingly sticking to their stance that N’Golo Kante will not be sold before the end of the summer transfer window.

In his first season in the Saudi Pro League, the 33-year-old made 30 appearances, chipping in with two goals and five assists.

Kante’s form led to a recall to the France squad for Euro 2024, his performances there subsequently resulting in interest from clubs in the Premier League and La Liga.

West Ham United and Atletico Madrid have each been credited as admirers of the former Chelsea star, who would be open to a return to Europe.

That said, according to Fabrizio Romano, Al-Ittihad are not tempted to cash in on the veteran over the coming weeks.

After their fifth-placed finish last season, Al-Ittihad will attempt to rebuild under Laurent Blanc with Aston Villa playmaker Moussa Diaby among the players to have made the switch to the Middle East.

Juventus turn attention to former Spurs winger

As for Juventus, they have been attempting to sign a new winger for a number of weeks without getting a deal over the line.

There is allegedly a long-standing interest in Fiorentina’s Nico Gonzalez with negotiations said to be continuing on that front.

According to Fabrizio Romano, though, Juventus have made contact with Sporting Lisbon regarding the availability of Marcus Edwards.

Despite being a key man at the Primeira Liga champions, there have been suggestions that the Englishman could be allowed to leave for the right price.

A total of 21 goals and 26 assists have been recorded from his 112 appearances, but he has only been named among the replacements for Sporting’s opening two fixtures of 2024-25.

Sporting are seemingly yet to decide what it would take to agree to a sale, Juventus currently not in a position to spend over the odds unless sales are made.
