Liverpool ‘edge closer’ to signing Euro 2024 star as loan plan revealed

Liverpool reportedly draw up a plan to sign Georgia international Giorgi Mamardashvili from Spanish side Valencia.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Liverpool have reportedly made a plan to secure the signature of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The Reds are still waiting to make their first signing of the summer transfer window after experiencing disappointment in their quest to sign Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

Liverpool were believed to be making progress in their pursuit of Zubimedi, but the Real Sociedad midfielder ultimately decided to stay put in San Sebastian.

While they may have experienced disappointment with one La Liga target, the Reds are seemingly well set to prise a goalkeeper away from the Spanish top flight.

Liverpool devise Mamardashvili plan

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds Liverpool have drawn up a plan to secure Mamardashvili’s signature, although they may have to wait a year to see him wear the Liverpool bade.

Under Liverpool’s proposal, Mamardashvili would move to Bournemouth for the 2024-25 season before formally completing a switch to Anfield next summer.

Mamardashvili’s proposed move to the Cherries would have to be a permanent or loan switch from Valencia because Liverpool would not be allowed to sign the 23-year-old and then loan him out immediately under Premier League rules.

The update claims that Mamardashvili has already accepted Liverpool’s plan and has also agreed personal terms with the Premier League side.

Alternatively, Liverpool could look to sign the Georgia international and then loan him back to Valencia for the season.

Why do Liverpool want to sign Mamardashvili?

Alisson Becker remains Liverpool’s number-one goalkeeper, having made 263 competitive appearances during his six-year stay at the club.

However, the Brazil international has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and there is some doubt as to whether he will remain at Anfield until the end of his contract in 2027.

Liverpool have seemingly identified Mamardashvili as Alisson’s long-term replacement after being left impressed with his performances for club and country.

The Georgian has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga since joining Valencia from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2021.

As per Opta, Mamardashvili prevented 9.7 goals in La Liga last season – more than any other goalkeeper in the Spanish top flight.

Mamardashvili also put in a number of impressive performances in Georgia’s Euro 2024 campaign, helping his country reach the last-16 stage of their first-ever major tournament.
