Forest transfer news: South American attacker ‘close’ to sealing City Ground move

Nottingham Forest are allegedly on the brink of adding a South American attacker to their ranks ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Nottingham Forest are allegedly close to finalising a deal for Talleres attacker Ramon Sosa.

After the initial burst of deals – both incomings and outgoings – to satisfy the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations, Forest have enjoyed a productive period of business.

Ahead of the start of the new campaign, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has been able to add a goalkeeper, centre-back, midfielder and versatile attacker to his ranks.

Carlos Miguel, Nikola Milenkovic, Elliot Anderson and Jota Silva will all provide competition for places at the City Ground, bringing extra quality and balance to the squad.

However, it appears that Forest are far from finished in the market with another player for the final third seemingly on the brink of an arrival.

Sosa to sign this week

According to The Telegraph, Forest have all but won the race for Sosa, who has been linked with a number of Premier League sides since the end of last season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City have each been credited with an interest in the Paraguay international, yet it appears that he will soon become a Forest player.

The report claims that Talleres have agreed to cash in on one of their key players for a fee of £11m after extensive discussions between the relevant parties.

Sosa will allegedly undergo a medical in the next 48 hours and could plausibly be unveiled when Forest face Bournemouth at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Will Sosa immediately challenge for a first-team role?

Forest are already blessed with a strong crop of attacking players with Jota in line to challenge the likes of Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi for a wide role.

Morgan Gibbs-White is also a guaranteed pick in the centre when fit, but 24-year-old Sosa is versatile and capable of being deployed in all three positions.

Sosa recently contributed one goal and one assist in his three appearances at the Copa America, while he has chipped in with seven goals and six assists from 21 outings for Talleres in 2024.

In the short term, though, he may only be viewed as a backup option as he acclimatises to English football, potentially getting his debut in the EFL Cup second round later this month.
