Arsenal transfer news: Gunners ‘planning move’ for Bayern Munich winger

Arsenal are allegedly planning to try to secure the signature of a Bayern Munich winger before the end of the summer transfer window.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Arsenal have reportedly identified a Bayern Munich winger as a potential summer transfer target.

The Gunners have, so far, endured somewhat of a quiet period in the market, the only notable fresh face to arrive being defender Riccardo Calafiori.

However, a big-money fee has been recouped through the sale of homegrown talent Emile Smith Rowe, and more should follow in due course with the likes of Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah being linked with an exit.

Mikel Arteta must cope with the scenario of ensuring that Arsenal meet all squad registration rules with regards to including academy graduates in their ranks or face having to reduce his squad size.

Nevertheless, it appears that the Spaniard remains in the market for players who will not help meet the criteria in that capacity.

Coman emerges as surprise target

According to Football Insider, Arsenal have placed Bayern winger Kingsley Coman on their shortlist ahead of the closing weeks of the transfer window.

Since the arrival of Vincent Kompany at the Allianz Arena, it has been well documented that the France international could leave for the right price.

Coman made just 17 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, contributing three goals and three assists, due to knee and adductor injuries.

Although he recovered in time to participate at Euro 2024, he would make just one substitute appearance, and his only outing for Bayern in pre-season came against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

With three years remaining on Coman’s contract, Bayern do not have to be in any rush to part ways with the 28-year-old, particularly when money is being generated through other sales.

That said, the report indicates that Arsenal are eager to negotiate a loan deal for Coman, something that may suit both the player and his club.

Do Arsenal need a player like Coman?

Arteta’s priority is getting another central-midfielder and centre-forward through the door, with the hope being that Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino will tick the box with the former.

Furthermore, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are established as the first-choice picks on the flanks in the final third.

Gabriel Jesus can also feature there when required, yet a fifth option is realistically required should Nelson move elsewhere in due course.

Coman allegedly wants assurances over his game time, though, which may prove to be a potential stumbling block in negotiations.
