Leicester City ‘closing in’ on loan signing of 19-year-old Brighton star

Leicester City are reportedly moving closer to the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Facundo Buonanotte, who has undergone a medical with the Foxes.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Leicester City have reportedly moved a step closer to the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion‘s Facundo Buonanotte.

The 19-year-old played a fringe role for the Seagulls in the Premier League last season, only managing to get into Roberto De Zerbi‘s starting XI on 17 occasions.

That being said, Buonanotte made 27 appearances overall in the top flight, scoring three goals and providing one assist as Brighton battled on domestic and continental fronts.

The attacker featured in five of the Seagulls’ Europa League group matches, although the South Coast club were unable to achieve an unlikely European success.

Since making the switch to Brighton from Rosario Central in January 2023, Buonanotte has racked up 50 appearances for the club, finding the net on five occasions.

Leicester set to sign Brighton’s Buonanotte on loan?

According to the Daily Mail, Leicester are moving towards their fifth signing of the summer window, as they look to escape an immediate relegation back to the Championship.

The report claims that the Foxes are keen on a move for Buonanotte, who could move across Premier League battlelines before the transfer window shuts.

It is understood that Leicester and Brighton are in advanced talks over a loan deal for the 19-year-old, with the South Coast side to temporarily offload the attacker.

At this stage, there is not said to be an obligation or option for the Foxes to buy Buonanotte after the loan spell – probably a smart choice considering the East Midlanders’ precarious situation with Profit and Sustainability rules.

It is believed that the Argentine travelled to Leicester for a medical with the Premier League newcomers on Thursday and should be ready for the start of campaign if the signing is finalised.

Would Buonanotte be a good fit for Leicester?

With the threat of a points deduction hanging over their heads, Leicester need a squad who are willing to fight for a top-17 finish in the Premier League this season.

Although loan players often become dissociated with the fate of their temporary clubs, it is hard to argue against the fact that Buonanotte’s quality would be a significant help to the Foxes.

That being said, Steve Cooper‘s side already have a top-class right winger in their ranks, with Abdul Fatawu joining permanently from Sporting Lisbon.

As a result, Buonanotte could operate in an advanced-midfield role, playing alongside the likes of Harry Winks and Wilfred Ndidi in the engine room.
