Tottenham ‘make decision’ on £25m attacker signing amid Chelsea competition

Tottenham allegedly pull out of the running to sign Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, who is also on the radar of Chelsea and Liverpool.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly ended their interest in a deal for in-demand Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

The 26-year-old’s future has been called into question for a number of months now, as he could leave the Bianconeri as a free agent in 2025 after entering the last 12 months of his deal.

As Juve and Chiesa are seemingly nowhere near agreeing an extension, the Old Lady are expected to listen to offers this summer, as he could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.

Spurs are among a handful of teams to have been linked with a move for the Italy international, who was a shining light during the Azzurri’s run to the Euro 2020 title three years ago.

Like Juventus, the Lilywhites are facing uncertainty over the futures of one of their own key attackers, as club captain Son Heung-min could also leave on a free transfer at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Tottenham ‘not pursuing’ Chiesa deal

While Spurs are believed to have been keeping an eye on Chiesa’s performances in Italy, Football Insider claims that the North London club have ‘pulled the plug’ on bringing him to England.

The former Fiorentina man is supposedly available for an affordable £25m thanks to his contract situation in Turin, but Spurs will not be firming up their initial interest with a bid.

Chiesa’s salary demands may have been a massive factor in Tottenham’s decision, as he is supposedly after a mammoth £8m a year from any suitors, which could put some other clubs off too.

However, the report adds that Chelsea are also in the mix, while Liverpool have been tipped to move for Chiesa as a possible successor to Mohamed Salah or Luis Diaz.

The 26-year-old came through the Fiorentina youth system and blossomed into a fundamental player for La Viola, who loaned him to Juventus on a two-year agreement in the summer of 2020.

Chiesa’s move was made permanent for €44.6m (£38m) at the end of his loan, and his record for the Old Lady reads 32 goals and 23 assists in 131 games, while he has also won one Coppa Italia and two Italian Super Cups in black and white.

Spurs to pursue new striker over Chiesa?

While Son’s contract situation is far from ideal, Tottenham can activate a 12-month extension in the South Korean’s agreement, and it is difficult to envisage the Lilywhites losing him for nothing in 2025.

Either way, Ange Postecoglou also has Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, RB Leipzig loanee Timo Werner and exciting talent Mikey Moore in his wide ranks, so a new winger is not believed to be a top priority.

Instead, the Australian has confirmed that he is looking to bring a new striker to North London before the summer window shuts, as Richarlison is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke and Lille’s Jonathan David are both thought to be of interest to Tottenham, who opted against targeting a big-money replacement for Harry Kane last year.
