Man United transfer news: Red Devils ‘respond’ to £12.6m midfielder bid

Manchester United reportedly turn down a €15m (£12.6m) bid from Galatasaray for Scott McTominay and are after double that fee to sell the Scotsman.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United have supposedly knocked back a bid of around €15m (£12.6m) from Turkish giants Galatasaray for Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay.

Despite achieving individual success in the final third last term – scoring 10 goals and setting up three more in 43 games – there are no guarantees that McTominay will be at Old Trafford next season.

The 27-year-old was a regular for Erik ten Hag in 2023-24, featuring on 32 occasions in the Premier League, but he only started 18 of those matches, including a brief stint at centre-forward.

That experiment is seemingly over thanks to Joshua Zirkzee arriving to compete with Rasmus Hojlund for the number nine spot, and the Red Devils are also working to sign a new midfielder before the August deadline.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte could be the man to bolster the engine room at Old Trafford, and the Uruguayan would be expected to form a first-choice pairing with Kobbie Mainoo should a deal go through.

Man United ‘demand double’ for McTominay sale

McTominay could still expect regular minutes next term, especially if Casemiro and Christian Eriksen both head for the exit door, and Ten Hag has insisted that the Scotland international is in his plans.

However, if it is weekly starts that McTominay is after, his best bet would be to pursue a move elsewhere, especially if Man United are successful in their pursuit of Ugarte.

Fulham have already failed with one attempt to prise the Scotland international away from Old Trafford, but the Cottagers are expected to go back in with a second proposal after failing with that £17m bid.

Even though Fulham reportedly failed with a £17m offer, Turkish Ali Naci Kucuk, speaking to Raydo Gol, claimed that Galatasaray tried their luck with an even smaller offer of €15m (£12.6m).

As quoted by The Sun, Kucuk stated that Man United are instead demanding €30m (£25.3m) to let McTominay leave, although a fee of €20m (£16.9m) might do the trick.

“Galatasaray have submitted an offer of €15m to Manchester United. Manchester United, on the other hand, wanted €30m,” Kucuk said.

“If Manchester United don’t get the offers they want, McTominay could go to Galatasaray for €20m. Let me remind you, Galatasaray signed Mauro Icardi in September.”

Is McTominay worth £25.3m?

Exit talk surrounding McTominay has been fuelled by the fact that the Scotsman only has one year left on his Red Devils contract, although the club can trigger a 12-month extension until 2026.

Activating that option would immediately help to protect McTominay’s value, but Man United have held back in previous instances, as they have usually triggered such clauses in January when players enter the last six months of their deals.

With 29 goals under his belt from 252 games in a Man United jersey, home-grown status and being a key player for his national team, £25m is not an outrageous figure for McTominay, but the Red Devils should expect clubs to baulk at that price while his contract is due to expire in 2025.
