Ivan Toney future: Man United ‘make decision’ over approach for Brentford striker

Manchester United reportedly make a decision about whether they will pursue a deal to sign England international Ivan Toney from Brentford.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United are reportedly ‘unlikely’ to pursue a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

The Red Devils have already strengthened their forward options this summer, having recruited Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for a reported £35.8m fee.

The Netherlands international is set to compete with Rasmus Hojlund for the centre-forward role in Erik ten Hag‘s side.

There has also been the suggestion that Man United could bring in another striker in the form of England international Toney.

The 28-year-old could be available for a cut-price fee, having entered the final 12 months of his Brentford contract.

However, according to journalist Florian Plettenburg, the Red Devils are ‘unlikely’ to pursue a move for the Brentford man this summer.

The 20-time English champions are not in any concrete talks with Brentford and are now focusing their attention on acquiring other targets.

The update suggests that Man United want Zirkzee and Hojlund to be their main centre-forward options for the long-term future, and they seemingly have no desire to recruit another striker ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Who could sign Toney this summer?

Like Man United, Arsenal appear to have cooled their interest in Toney after previously being mooted as one of his potential suitors.

As it stands, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are believed to be among the frontrunners to prise Toney away from the Gtech Community Stadium this season.

However, with no deal imminent, it was recently reported that Toney could run down his Brentford contract if he fails to secure a big move this summer.

The Englishman’s future could also be affected by Brentford’s club-record signing Igor Thiago, who sustained a knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Wimbledon.

The Bees could look to fend off interest in Toney if it becomes clear that Thiago will be out for a significant period of time.
