Arsenal forward announces departure ahead of potential Man United move

Denmark Under-17 international Chido Obi-Martin announces his Arsenal exit ahead of a potential move to fellow English side Manchester United.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin has confirmed his departure ahead of a potential switch to Manchester United.

The Gunners have been working hard to keep hold of the 16-year-old, who has spent the last couple of years in Arsenal’s academy setup.

Arsenal were willing to tie him down to new scholarship terms with an agreement to sign a professional contract when he turns 17 in November.

The Gunners believed they had offered the youngster a fair deal, but it recently emerged that he was in talks to complete a move to Man United.

Obi-Martin, who has been linked with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, recently visited Man United’s Carrington training base, signalling his intent to move to a new club.

Obi-Martin bids farewell to Arsenal

The teenager has now taken to social media to confirm his Arsenal exit ahead of a possible move to fellow English side Man United.

Obi-Martin wrote on Instagram: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Arsenal for the last four years.

WThe experiences and growth I’ve achieved here have been truly invaluable. A special thanks to the coaches, staff and teammates at Hale End.

“The memories made will always be remembered. Thank you once again for this journey. I wish everyone continued success and all the best for the future.”

Man United likely to sign highly-rated talent

While his next destination has not been confirmed, it appears likely that Obi-Martin will swap North London for the North West of England.

The Red Devils will have to pay Arsenal a compensation fee, but they will view that as a worthwhile investment for a precocious talent.

Obi-Martin has developed a reputation as one of Europe’s highly-rated prospects, having showcased his goalscoring prowess in Arsenal’s Under-18 side.

Last season, he racked up a staggering 32 goals in 18 matches in the Under-18 Premier League, netting three goals or more in six of those appearances.

In fact, the up-and-coming talent racked up seven goals in a single match, achieving the impressive haul in April 9-0 win over Norwich City.

Obi-Martin went on to represent his country at the European Under-17 Championship earlier this summer, scoring a couple of goals to help Denmark reach the semi-final stage.
