Tottenham transfer news: Spurs win race to sign highly-rated teenager

Tottenham Hotspur confirm they have won the race to sign highly-rated winger Yang Min-Hyeok from South Korean club Gangwon FC.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of 18-year-old winger Yang Min-Hyeok from Gangwon FC.

Spurs have already added two highly-rated talents to their squad this summer, signing Archie Gray from Leeds United and Lucas Bergvall and Djurgarden.

The North London club have confirmed the addition of another up-and-coming talent, having agreed a deal to sign Yang Min-Hyeok from South Korean side Gangwon FC.

A statement on Tottenham’s website read: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached an agreement for Yang Min-Hyeok to join the Club from K League 1 side Gangwon FC, subject to work permit and international clearance.”

Yang has signed a long-term deal until the summer of 2030 and will officially join the club in January 2025 after completing the current K League 1 season.

Who is Spurs’ new addition?

The attacker, who turned 18 in April, has established himself as a regular fixture in the Gangwon first team this season.

Yang has been utilised on both flanks for Gangwon, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 25 appearances in K League 1.

The teenager has also featured for his country at youth level, having played for South Korea’s Under-16 and Under-17 sides.

Last year, Yang featured in all six matches at the 2023 Under-17 Asian Cup, helping his country pick up a runners-up medal.

The winger also represented South Korea at last year’s Under-17 World Cup, playing the full duration of his country’s three group matches.

Spurs beat Premier Legaue rival to Gangwon

As quoted by Spurs Web, a Gangwon director revealed that Yang turned down the opportunity to join another Premier League club to complete the move to Tottenham.

“It is true that another big six Premier League team that recently won the UCL had also enquired about Yang” the director said.

“That team had nice plans about Yang’s development and had approached us earlier than Spurs. But what I didn’t realize at the time was that Yang had his heart set on Tottenham. I even asked him if he wanted to go to that other club, but Yang straightly refused, saying he wanted to only join Spurs.

“To make it clear, it was Yang, rather than Gangwon, who made the choice to pick Tottenham as his next club. I respected the player’s wish.”

Yang is expected to play against his new club, with the youngster set to represent a K-League XI in Wednesday’s friendly meeting with Ange Postecoglou‘s side.
