Double swoop? Man United ‘in talks’ to sign Bayern duo

Manchester United reportedly remain in discussions to sign Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United are reportedly still in discussions over a potential double swoop for Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

The Red Devils have already strengthened their side ahead of the 2024-25 season, having recruited Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee from Lille and Bologna respectively.

While Yoro has added to Man United’s defensive options, they are still looking to bolster their backline with a couple of more signings.

The 20-time English champions have been heavily linked with a move for De Ligt, who previously played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax.

However, Man United are yet to meet Bayern’s €50m (£42m) valuation, while there is also the threat of competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Man United remain in talks over De Ligt, Mazraoui

The Red Devils are also pushing to sign Mazraoui after hijacking West Ham United’s attempts to recruit the Morocco international.

Like De Ligt, Mazraoui previously worked with Ten Hag at Ajax and is seemingly keen to reunite with his former boss at Old Trafford.

While no deals have been finalised, journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Man United are still in discussions to sign both De Ligt and Mazraoui this summer.

The update suggests the Red Devils remain in contact with agent Rafaela Pimenta, who represents both De Ligt and Mazraoui.

Wan-Bissaka impacting Mazraoui pursuit

While De Ligt would strengthen Man United’s central defensive options, Mazraoui is viewed as a potential replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

As a result, there is a belief that Man United will not finalise a deal for Mazraoui until they have found Wan-Bissaka a new home.

The Red Devils are believed to be looking for around £15m for Wan-Bissaka, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

West Ham United are among the right-back’s suitors after being forced to give up their pursuit of Mazraoui following Man United’s interest.
