Arsenal transfer news: Gunners, Chelsea ‘join’ race for Man City attacker

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly in the race for Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, who is looking for a switch to a warmer climate amid interest from Atletico Madrid.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Arsenal have reportedly joined Chelsea and Atletico Madrid in the race for Manchester City‘s Julian Alvarez.

The 24-year-old is currently away from club football on international duty in France, where Argentina are gunning for gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

One of three over-aged players in his squad, Alvarez is set to be a key man for his country during the latter stages the competition, already providing an assist during the 3-1 win over Iraq on Saturday afternoon.

Focusing on matters at the Etihad, the former River Plate man has been a revelation since moving to the blue side of Manchester during the summer of 2022.

Alvarez has made the net ripple on 36 occasions in 103 matches across all competitions over a 24-month period, helping the Citizens to Premier League and Champions League triumphs.

Arsenal, Chelsea ‘join’ pursuit of Man City’s Alvarez

According to reports in Spain via TEAMtalk, two Premier League heavyweights have joined the race for the services of Man City star Alvarez this summer.

The report claims that the 24-year-old is wanted by both Arsenal and Chelsea, with the London duo looking to impress on the domestic and continental fronts this season.

It is understood that Man City are demanding £60m plus £17m in add-ons for the 2022 World Cup winner, whose stay in Pep Guardiola‘s ranks could end after just two years.

Atletico Madrid are also believed to be keen on move for Alvarez, however the Citizens’ hefty asking price could wipe the Spaniards out of the race.

There are suggestions that the Argentine has found it difficult to adjust to the weather in England, with the attacker and his family now favouring a switch to a warmer climate.

What could Alvarez bring to Arsenal, Chelsea?

With Arsenal entering the race for the signature of Alvarez, there are suggestions that Mikel Arteta believes that the 24-year-old is a ‘perfect’ striker for the Emirates system and that he would score over 20 Premier League goals per season at the club.

The Gunners were operating with Kai Havertz at the focal point of the forward line during the latter stages of last term, although the German is not a natural number nine.

Alvarez certainly fits that bill and is supposedly frustrated with being sat behind Norwegian giant Erling Haaland in the pecking order at the Etihad.

As for Chelsea, Nicolas Jackson‘s debut season in the Premier League was littered with comical misses, moments that would be a rarity if Alvarez made the move to Stamford Bridge and assumed a starting spot.
