Fulham transfer news: Fluminense president provides update on Andre negotiations

Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt provides an update on Fulham’s bid to sign Andre as Joao Palhinha’s replacement.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt has claimed Fulham are yet to respond to a counter-offer for Brazilian midfielder Andre.

The Cottagers are currently on the lookout for midfield reinforcements following the departure of Joao Palhinha earlier this month.

The Portugal international completed a £47m move to German giants Bayern Munich to bring an end to his two-year stay at Craven Cottage.

As a result of Palhinha’s departure, Fulham boss Marco Silva needs to recruit a new defensive midfielder ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Fulham have seemingly identified Andre as one of their top targets after being linked with the 23-year-old in the last two transfer windows.

Fluminense provide Andre update

According to The Athletic, Fulham have been told to increase their offer after failing with a bid in the region of £21m.

The Brazilian club are believed to be holding out for around £25m, with Andre under contract until December 2026.

Fluminense president Bittencourt has revealed that his club have gone back to Fulham with a counter-offer but are yet to hear a response from the Premier League side.

“There’s no negotiation,” Bittencourt told Radio Itatiaia. “There’s a proposal that was made, Fluminense made a counter-proposal and there has been no response to it yet. It’s been about 10 days.

“Fulham are the club that have been looking for Andre since last year, as well as Liverpool. In January they made a new bid. At the moment, what we have is a piece of paper from Fulham with a proposal, and a piece of paper from Fluminense with a counter-proposal. We don’t have an answer yet.”

Who is Fulham’s transfer target?

After progressing through the youth ranks at Fluminense, Andre has gone on to make 187 competitive appearances for the senior side.

Last year, Andre started 12 of Fluminense’s 13 Copa Libertadores matches to help the club win the tournament for the first time in their history.

The midfielder, who has made five appearances for Brazil, spent around two months out with a knee injury before he returned to action to provide an assist in Fluminense’s 1-1 draw with Internacional earlier this month.

With Fulham yet to submit an improved bid, Andre is likely to be involved when Mano Menezes‘s side face Cuiaba in Sunday’s Brasileiro clash.
