Brentford to slash asking price for Man United-linked Ivan Toney?

Brentford are reportedly willing to sell Ivan Toney for less than £50m this summer, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal showing no signs of pursuing a deal.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Brentford are reportedly prepared to accept an offer worth less than £50m for Ivan Toney this summer.

The 28-year-old has spent the summer on international duty with England, who were gunning for Euro 2024 success in Germany under the leadership of Gareth Southgate.

The Three Lions played poorly overall in the tournament but managed to sneak into the final before losing to deserved winners Spain at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

Toney failed to start a match for England this summer but made a telling contribution in the quarter-finals, scoring from 12 yards out during the penalty-shootout victory over Switzerland.

Even when Southgate looked to replace the leggy Harry Kane in the second half of matches, Ollie Watkins was preferred to the physicality offered by the Bees marksman.

Brentford ‘reduce’ Toney price tag amid Man United links

According to The Sun, Brentford have made the signing of their talisman significantly easier ahead of the all-important 2023-24 campaign in the Premier League.

The report claims that Thomas Frank‘s side are willing to accept offers less than £50m for the 28-year-old, who managed just 42 minutes at Euro 2024 this summer.

It is understood that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all made it very clear that they are not in the race for Toney this summer.

That news is likely to upset the former Peterborough United attacker, who supposedly told his close friends of his desire to move to Old Trafford this summer.

With a trio of Premier League heavyweights out of the race for the striker, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are now the most likely destinations for the player.

Awkward timing for Brentford

After bagging 20 goals in 33 Premier League matches during the 2022-23 term, Toney was arguably one of the hottest properties on the transfer market.

Moving forward 12 months, the England international only returned from a ban for breaking betting rules in January and scored just four goals in 16 league appearances.

With Man United announcing the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5m, it is clear that the Red Devils are prioritising younger targets.

The same could be said for Spurs and West Ham, who are both interested in securing the signature of Lille and Canada marksman Jonathan David this summer.
