Man United transfer news: Red Devils ‘reach’ agreement to sign 23-year-old striker

Manchester United are reportedly close to announcing the signing of Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, agreeing a deal worth over £33.6m for the Dutch attacker.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

The 23-year-old has spent the last month away with the Netherlands at Euro 2024 in Germany, where Ronald Koeman‘s side have been gunning for continental glory.

Unfortunately for them, goals from Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins sent England through to the final in Berlin versus Spain on Sunday at the expense of the Netherlands.

Zirkzee was an unused substitute for the first five matches of this country’s campaign, before coming on for a one-minute cameo on Wednesday night in Dortmund.

Despite his impressive performances in Serie A last season, the youngster was not preferred to Memphis Depay or Wout Weghorst to lead the Netherlands’ attacking line.

Man United ‘reach’ agreement for Bologna’s Zirkzee

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are closing in on the first signing of the 2024 summer transfer window.

The report claims that the Red Devils have agreed a deal with Italian side Bologna for Zirkzee, who is set for a lucrative move to England.

It is understood that Erik ten Hag‘s side will pay just over €40m (£33.6m) for the 23-year-old, with the transfer to be announced by the club imminently.

Zirkzee is said to have agreed on personal terms with Man United, and the Netherlands international will be contracted to the Theatre of Dreams club until at least 2029.

The Red Devils are also believed to possess the option to extend the striker’s terms by a further 12 months, keeping him on his supposed deal until 2030.

Man United’s first signing of a new era

Should the signing of Zirkzee be announced in the coming days, the Dutch attacker will be the first player arrival of the INEOS era at Man United.

The group, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe – assumed control of footballing operations at the club during the early part of 2024, with the Glazer Family selling a significant stake in the Red Devils.

With Denmark international Rasmus Hojlund already at Old Trafford, Man United are beginning to collect some of Europe’s most promising forward players.

There are set to be serious reinforcements at the other end of the pitch, too, with Everton Jarrad Branthwaite and Lille’s Leny Yoro being chased by Ten Hag’s side.
