Transfer news and rumours: De Gea to Saudi, Moldovan to Celtic, Jebbison to Cherries

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including David de Gea to Saudi Arabia, Horatiu Moldovan to Celtic and Daniel Jebbison to Bournemouth.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has reportedly held talks over a potential move to Saudi Arabia.

De Gea has effectively taken a one-year sabbatical after leaving Man United upon the expiry of his contract last summer.

As a result, De Gea has not played a competitive game since featuring in the 2-1 FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City in June 2023.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, De Gea could be presented with the chance to return to the professional game by clubs from the Saudi Pro League.

The former Spain international has held discussions with Al Shabab as well as another unnamed Saudi Arabian club.

A move to Al Shabab would see De Gea link up with former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic and ex-Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.

The experienced shot-stopper is currently weighing up the proposals that he has received before he makes a final decision over the next steps in his career.

Celtic-linked Moldovan keen to leave Atletico

Sticking with goalkeepers, Celtic-linked Horatiu Moldovan has admitted that he wants to leave Atletico Madrid in the near future.

Moldovan joined Atleti in the January transfer window after making 113 competitive appearances during a three-year spell with Rapid Bucharest.

The 26-year-old spent the second half of the 2023-24 campaign on the bench, as Diego Simeone kept faith with his first-choice shot-stopper Jan Oblak.

With the Romania international yet to make his Atleti debut, he told a podcast before Euro 2024 that he would be open to leaving the Spanish club this summer.

“I want to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer or winter,” Moldovan said. “I don’t know if I’ll leave now. It depends on what opportunities arise. But I definitely want to leave and play. If a good team from a big league presents itself to me, then I want to go. We will see what offers appear. You can’t reject [the chance to play for Atletico]. But I want to play.”

According to Mundo Deportivo Celtic could offer him an escape route as they look to sign a new goalkeeper following Joe Hart‘s retirement.

The Scottish champions are seemingly keeping tabs on the 26-year-old after previously being linked with a move in January.

In the Premier League, Bournemouth are reportedly on the verge of signing striker Daniel Jebbison following his exit from Sheffield United.

Jebbison became a free agent earlier this month after turning down what Sheffield United labelled a “sizeable” contract offer.

According to journalist Mark McAdam, Bournemouth have won the race to sign Jebbison, having fought off competition from the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A.

The Cherries have agreed a £1.5m compensation package with Sheffield United rather than letting a tribunal decide the fee.

Jebbison underwent a medical on Tuesday and it seems only a matter of time until he is unveiled as the newest member of Andoni Iraola‘s squad.

The Cherries must now decide whether to keep the 20-year-old for next season or allow him to leave on loan to gain valuable game time.
