Ederson future: Saudi Arabian club ‘preparing’ bid to sign Man City goalkeeper

Manchester City are reportedly bracing themselves for a bid from the Saudi Pro League for their first-choice goalkeeper Ederson.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester City are reportedly braced for a bid from the Saudi Pro League for goalkeeper Ederson.

Ederson has made 332 competitive appearances since joining the Citizens from Benfica for £35m in the summer of 2017.

During his time with the Citizens, he has won six Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, two FA Cups, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, a Club World Cup and two Community Shields.

Ederson currently remains Pep Guardiola‘s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper despite having a strong understudy in Stefan Ortega.

The Brazilian may be regarded as an important member of the Man City squad, but there is some uncertainty as to whether he will still be at the Etihad Stadium next season.

Saudi Arabian club set to make Ederson bid

According to talkSPORT, Man City are bracing themselves for a bid from the Saudi Pro League side for the 30-year-old goalkeeper.

While no club has been named in the report, the Brazil international has been heavily linked with a move to Al-Nassr.

Al-Nassr are looking to find a replacement for ex-Arsenal man David Ospina, who left the club upon the expiry of his contract.

The Saudi Arabian outfit had been considering Liverpool’s Alisson Becker as a potential option, but it seems they are favouring a move for his compatriot.

Al-Nassr are looking to reunite Ederson with his former Man City teammate Aymeric Laporte, while their squad also contains Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, Seko Fofana and Alex Telles.

Is Ederson likely to depart?

Man City are believed to be keen to retain Ederson’s services, but that does not mean a departure is off the table.

With two years left to run on the player’s contract, the Citizens will consider parting ways if they receive an offer in excess of £30m.

According to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Al-Nassr have offered Ederson a lucrative two-year contract worth a total of €60m (£51m).

The goalkeeper is said to be open to the move, leaving Man City to prepare contingency plans in the event of his departure.

The Premier League champions feel Ortega could step up to become the club’s new number one, but that may not stop them from delving into the transfer market to bolster their goalkeeping department.
