Barcelona-linked Dani Olmo addresses future as transfer rumours gather pace

RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo, who is being linked with a return to Barcelona, suggests that a decision on his future is unlikely to be made until after Euro 2024.

SURE ODDS BANNER

In-demand RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo has indicated that a decision on his future at club level is unlikely to be made until after Euro 2024.

Barcelona are believed to be interested in re-signing the Spain international this summer, with a €60m (£51m) release clause present in his current contract at Leipzig.

There is also thought to be Premier League interest in the 26-year-old, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City allegedly among his admirers.

Olmo had his injury problems during the 2023-24 campaign, but he still managed to contribute eight goals and five assists in 25 appearances at club level.

The attacker is currently in action for Spain at Euro 2024, playing three times at the competition, and he scored in his country’s 4-1 success over Georgia in the round of 16.

Olmo could return to Barcelona this summer

Olmo will now be bidding to have an impact against Germany on Friday evening, with the two European giants preparing to lock horns in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Barcelona have allegedly made a verbal offer of €60m (£51m) for Olmo, although the Catalan outfit cannot afford to pay the whole fee up-front due to their financial restrictions.

Olmo has said that he is only currently focusing on matters with the national side, so a final decision on his club future is unlikely to be made until Euro 2024 has concluded or Spain have been eliminated.

“Hopefully we’ll have to celebrate the title with our teammates and then we’ll see what happens,” he told Marca.

“You all know what’s in my contract, so… I’m here, happy, content and trying to enjoy the experience to the fullest. Whatever happens at the club, we’ll see.”

How will the situation play out?

Barcelona are seemingly very keen, but the Catalan outfit are also being heavily linked with Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams, who is with Olmo in the Spain camp.

Deals for both this summer would be very difficult but not impossible, especially with the Catalan giants said to be open to selling both Raphinha and Ronald Araujo for big money.

Olmo spent a short period with Espanyol during his youth career before moving to Barcelona, representing their famous academy between 2007 and 2014.

The attacker failed to make the jump into the first team, though, with his professional breakthrough instead coming at Dinamo Zagreb, where his form earned him a move to Leipzig.

Olmo has represented his current side on 148 occasions in all competitions since arriving in January 2020, scoring 29 goals and registering 34 assists in the process.
