Manchester City transfer news: Kudus ‘could sign’ if sale made this summer

Manchester City may reportedly be prepared to make an approach for West Ham United playmaker Mohammed Kudus if one notable sale materialises in the summer transfer window.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester City are reportedly giving consideration to making a formal approach for West Ham United attacker Mohammed Kudus.

Pep Guardiola is currently contemplating his options ahead of the 2024-25 campaign with the Premier League champions yet to come close to making any additions.

That is expected to happen in due course given City’s financial position and several players having been linked with taking on a fresh challenge elsewhere.

One of those names is Kevin De Bruyne, the legendary playmaker having just entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Recently, the Belgium international hinted that he would consider an exit, but in recent days, his stance towards remaining in the North-West of England appears to have gotten stronger.

Kudus a potential replacement?

With De Bruyne having turned 33 years of age last week, though, City naturally have to consider how they will eventually replace one of the greatest players in their history further down the line.

According to CaughtOffside, City view Kudus as a potential alternative to De Bruyne when he does decide to leave the club.

The report suggests that both Guardiola and officials behind the scenes are admirers of the Ghana international, who enjoyed a positive first campaign in a West Ham shirt from an individual perspective.

A total of 13 goals and six assists came from 42 outings in the Premier League and Europa League, Kudus only enhancing his reputation after his switch from Ajax.

West Ham are in a strong position with regards to his future courtesy of the 23-year-old having a contract until 2028 and the East Londoners possessing the option of a 12-month extension.

In what circumstances could a deal happen?

Despite their appreciation of Kudus, it is alleged that City would only try to sign Kudus if De Bruyne moves to another club before the end of August.

Furthermore, Kudus has no intention of pushing for a transfer away from West Ham given that he is only 12 months into a five-year deal.

Kudus allegedly had a £85m release clause in place up until July 1, but any suitors would now need to negotiate terms with West Ham if they wished to firm up their interest.
