Spain v Georgia LIVE: Euro 2024 score and updates as underdogs stun La Roja after Robin Le Normand own goal

Germany fans sing You’ll Never Walk Alone before Euro 2024 match

Spain take on Georgia at Euro 2024 for a place in the quarter-finals.

SURE ODDS BANNER

La Roja have shone in Germany with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams providing a spark to establish Luis de la Fuente’s side as one of the favourites.

A magnificent display against Italy was followed up by a much-changed Spain outfit edging past Albania to maintain the only 100 percent record in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Georgia have grown in confidence behind Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Metz striker Georges Mikautadze, who has been linked with West Ham, to create history under Willy Sagnol.

Spain 0-1 Georgia, 26 minutes

A Rodri drive thuds into Guram Kashia’s thigh, the Georgia captain lifting his leg just in time with keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili scrambling (and probably struggling) behind him.

This atmosphere is wild – has to be up there with any of the best at the tournament. Spain are genuinely excellent but haven’t turned their dominance into goals, but the Georgia fans cheer every challenge and counter-attack as loud as most nations cheers goals. When the ball rolled in off the defender, it was incredible – a ferocious and ecstatic roar. Georgia have something tangible to protect, to give them energy, as well as all that amazing backing from the stands.

GOAL! Spain 0-1 GEORGIA (Robin Le Normand own goal, 18 minutes)

They’ve barely had a kick…but Georgia lead! Space opens up the right hand side and Georges Mikautadze is good enough to turn, find it and pick out Otar Kakabadze. The wing-back swings it into a dangerous area and Robin Le Normand inadvertently turns into his own net!

Spain 0-0 Georgia, 15 minutes

Khvicha Kvaratshkelia almost nips in as Aymeric Laporte and Marc Cucurella rat-a-tat around the back. The passing is precise and prompt enough to deny the forward a chance to pinch it, though. Spain have hardly made an error so far.

Spain 0-0 Georgia, 12 minutes

Nothing is sticking for Georgia. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze are both trying their best to offer an option to hold it when those behind them clear long, but Spain are soon back in tempo, metronome Rodri keeping them ticking.

It feels like Georgia are already clinging on. Giorgi Mamardashvili manages to claw away before Guram Kashia throws a leg at the ball to complete the clearing job.

Spain 0-0 Georgia, 8 minutes

Marc Cucurella gets to the byline, underlapping and trying to force in a cross. A Georgian leg turns it behind.

Spain can’t make much of the corner.

Spain 0-0 Georgia, 7 minutes

Spain have started with all the ball as expected, but the vocal backing in the stadium is heavily skewed in Georgia’s favour so far. They’ll need that to keep pace with Spain’s possession and movement – it’s a raucous and excitable start here in Cologne and we look set for a tremendous match between sides who are as different in their tactics as they are with their footballing history.
