Chelsea transfer news: Strasbourg ‘pushing’ to sign USA international

Strasbourg are allegedly pushing to sign a USA international ahead of him potentially joining Chelsea in the future.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are reportedly looking to sign a USA international for Strasbourg.

BlueCo have made a sustained effort to acquire the services of many young players since the end of the season as they continue their approach of trying to sign as many wonderkids as possible.

In some cases, players are heading straight to Chelsea, yet Boehly and Clearlake must be conscious of the restrictions that are in place regarding foreign loans.

While there will be at least one Blues prospect who will link up with Strasbourg on loan during the summer transfer window, it will make logical and financial sense for Strasbourg to sign potential future Chelsea talent on permanent deals.

According to L’Equipe and backed up by other outlets, that is the method that BlueCo are taking with an American youngster.

Wiley in line to move to France

The report claims that Atlanta United defender Caleb Wiley could soon be finalising a transfer to the Ligue 1 outfit.

Although terms are yet to be agreed, there is said to be a confidence that a deal will eventually get over the line in due course.

Wiley – a left-back – has already chipped in with six goals and five assists from 74 appearances in MLS despite being just 19 years of age.

His rapid progression has been rewarded with two caps for USA, his outings coming as a substitute against Mexico and Slovenia since April 2023.

Despite missing out on a call-up from the ongoing Copa America, Wiley is expected to be involved when USA participate at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Right move at right time?

As a result of his development, there has been an inevitably about Wiley eventually making the switch to Europe for some time.

Atlanta will perhaps prefer to retain his services for the remainder of the season, yet they will recognise that they have an opportunity to make a substantial sum for a homegrown talent.

Should Wiley move to Stade de la Meinau, he will be joining a side, managed by Patrick Vieira, who have ambitions to record higher than last season’s 13th-placed finish in Ligue 1.
