Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: ‘Concrete’ interest in Barcelona-linked attacker

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to join the race for a player who has recently been linked with a transfer to Barcelona.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to join the race for a winger who has been linked with Barcelona.

With several players having been released on a free transfer and Lucas Bergvall due to link up with Spurs next month, there will already be a different feel to the North London outfit next season.

Furthermore, Timo Werner has been retained on a loan deal from RB Leipzig, maintaining the depth that Ange Postecoglou has in the final third.

Nevertheless, given that there could be outgoings, new arrivals are expected in due course, particularly on the flank and down the middle of the attack.

A new number nine is Postecoglou’s priority, yet it appears that a player who starred in the 2023-24 Championship campaign is very much on their radar.

Spurs preparing Philogene move

According to Football Insider, Spurs are contemplating whether to push ahead with an approach for Hull City winger Jaden Philogene.

Earlier this week, the former Aston Villa youngster was surprisingly linked with a switch to Barcelona, who do not necessarily have the funds to complete a deal at this point in time.

That should theoretically let in the likes of Spurs and West Ham United, who are also said to be monitoring the situation.

Spurs are said to have a ‘concrete’ interest in the England Under-21 international, while West Ham have allegedly instigated preliminary discussions.

Despite the 22-year-old having a contract until 2026, Hull may be prepared to consider offers this summer with any funds able to be used by new boss Tim Walter.

Why are big clubs ready to take a chance on Philogene?

Having earned just eight minutes of Premier League football at Aston Villa across three brief substitute outings, the assumption was that Philogene may struggle to earn a return to the top flight.

Instead, it was the best move for his career. Despite only contributing four goals and one assist from 37 appearances on loan at Cardiff City, he has been a revelation at the MKM Stadium.

A total of 12 goals and six assists came from just 32 outings in the Championship, cementing himself as one of the best wingers in the second tier of English football.

While it is plausible that he could remain in the division for another season, it appears increasingly likely that a high-profile club will meet Hull’s currently-unknown asking price.
