Chelsea transfer news: ‘Key striker decision made’ ahead of Marc Guiu arrival

Chelsea reportedly reach a decision over their pursuit of further attackers in the event that they finalise the transfer of Barcelona forward Marc Guiu.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Chelsea reportedly reach a decision over how they would react to the likely arrival of Barcelona forward Marc Guiu.

The Blues are known to have assessed many possibilities in the market as they bid to significantly strengthen their options down the middle of their attack.

Although Nicolas Jackson was regarded as the standout first choice under Mauricio Pochettino, it remains to be seen whether that will be the case under Enzo Maresca.

Widespread reports have indicated that Chelsea are ready to activate the release clause of Guiu, who will cost just over £5m.

Guiu is allegedly joining the West Londoners on the basis that he will at least be given a chance to prove himself ahead of potentially featuring in Maresca’s squad for 2024-25.

Chelsea reach decision over striker search

With just seven senior Barcelona appearances to his name, it is unclear whether that is a realistic ambition for the 18-year-old in the short term.

Nevertheless, regardless of what Chelsea decide to do with Guiu, it appears that they know their next plan of action in the market.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea’s recruitment team will press on with trying to sign another striker once the Guiu deal is finalised.

The report suggests that co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are partly pressing ahead with the Guiu addition due to the value for money that it should bring.

Chelsea still want to add a player with some experience to their forward line, although it is up for debate how much experience is actually required to tick certain boxes.

David on the radar

Lille‘s Jonathan David is said to remain very much on Chelsea’s radar, Boehly and Clearlake perhaps wanting to exploit that just one year remains on his contract.

The Canada international has contributed 84 goals and 18 assists from his 183 appearances for the French outfit, putting him in the shop window for a move to a bigger club.

Chelsea are also said to be competing with Aston Villa for the signature of Hoffenheim attacker Maximilian Beier, who would cost in the region of £27m.

With offers being invited for Armando Broja, Chelsea may wish to sell the Albania international first in order to assess how much money can be spent on a new striker.
