Tottenham are reportedly in discussions with the representatives of Lille striker Jonathan David over a summer move, with Chelsea also keen on the Canada international.
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened discussions over the signing of Lille forward Jonathan David.
The 24-year-old is currently away on international duty with Canada at this summer’s Copa America, which is being hosted in the United States.
After friendly matches with the Netherlands and France at the beginning of June, David and company commenced their quest for pan-American glory with an opening clash with World Cup winners Argentina.
The Lille marksman played the entirety of the contest at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta but could not prevent an Argentine victory, with goals from Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez deciding the destination of the points.
David is set to be back in action when Jesse Marsch‘s troops play Peru on Tuesday evening, when Canada will be expecting to get their Copa America dreams back on track.

Tottenham ‘begin discussions’ over David move
According to Football Insider, a new Premier League horse has entered the race for Lille’s David during this summer’s transfer window in the form of Tottenham.
The report claims that the Lilywhites have commenced initial discussions with the representatives of the forward over a potential move to North London this summer.
With one year left remaining on his current deal at Decathlon Arena, now could be the time for Les Dogues to part ways with their Canadian marksman.
It is understood that Lille would not stand in the way of a move for the 24-year-old if the club’s asking price for the player was met by a potential suitor.
The French outfit could be in for a significant rebuild job this summer, with head coach Paulo Fonseca already leaving for Italian giants AC Milan.

Chelsea also keen on Tottenham target David?
Looking to bolster their attacking ranks for the 2024-25 term, it is believed that Ange Postecoglou‘s men face serious competition from a Premier League rival.
After relying heavily on the brilliance of Cole Palmer for moments in front of goal last term, Chelsea are said to be pursuing a deal for Lille’s David.
Signing from Villarreal last summer, Nicolas Jackson was trusted to lead the line for Mauricio Pochettino‘s men last season, however the forward’s finishing left a lot to be desired at times.
Spurs are also in great need of a recognised central striker after failing to truly replace Harry Kane, who departed to Bayern Munich for £100m last summer.
