Leeds United transfer news: Borussia Dortmund ‘trying to lure’ star to Germany

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly attempting to secure a deal for one of Leeds United’s star players.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly set their sights on trying to sign one of Leeds United‘s star men during the summer transfer window.

Having missed out on an immediate return to the Premier League, Leeds will allegedly need to cash in on at least one of their most prized assets.

However, the Yorkshire giants are not short in that department with Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter all of high value.

From Dortmund’s perspective, they have generally taken the approach of acquiring the services of youngsters or players with potential to be sold for a profit at a later date.

That applies for the aforementioned trio, with it being claimed that the Champions League runners-up are attempting to win the race for one of their signatures.

According to BILD, sporting director Sven Mislintat is ‘trying to lure’ Gray to the Westfalenstadion.

The report claims that Dortmund feel that it is the right time to try to secure the services of the 18-year-old, who has admirers all around Europe.

Despite only turning 18 years of age in March, the teenager made a total of 47 starts and five substitute appearances in all competitions during 2023-24.

Gray is allegedly keen to secure a transfer to Dortmund, potentially feeling that he will receive more top-flight minutes there than at a major club in England at this stage of his career.

Are Leeds likely to sell?

With Gray possessing a contract at Elland Road until 2028, Leeds can certainly afford to hold tight when it comes to addressing the prospect’s future.

Leeds will be one of the favourites for Championship promotion next season and Gray is a valuable and versatile member of Daniel Farke‘s squad.

In the grand scheme of things, though, much may depend on whether Leeds agree to sell Summerville, who is known to have widespread interest due to his contract having just two years left to run.

While Rutter will also be considered for a sale, Leeds will insist on offers being above £30m to give the green light with the 22-year-old having only enhanced his reputation since his arrival from Hoffenheim in January 2023.
