Cristiano Ronaldo broke a European Championship assist record in Portugal‘s 3-0 win over Turkey.

The 39-year-old entered the tournament as the record scorer and all-time appearance-maker in European Championship history.

Ronaldo then became the first player to feature at six European Championships when he appeared in Portugal’s 2-1 win over the Czech Republic.

The Al-Nassr forward claimed another record with his goal contribution in Saturday’s dominant 3-0 win over Turkey in Dortmund.

Ronaldo creates more history

Ronaldo looked set to add to his 14-goal tally at the European Championship when he found himself one-on-one with Turkey goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.

However, instead of trying to score his first goal at Euro 2024, Ronaldo opted to square it to Bruno Fernandes for a simple finish.

The former Real Madrid star has now recorded more assists at the European Championship than any other player on record.

The forward has registered seven assists in the tournament’s history, surpassing the record he previously shared with Czech Republic’s Karel Poborsky.

Ronaldo’s latest European Championship assist comes 20 years after he provided his first in a 2-0 win over Russia at Euro 2004.

Ronaldo helps Portugal equal another record

Not only did he create more history for himself, but Ronaldo also helped Portugal record their joint-biggest victory in European Championship history.

The Selecao have previously recorded 3-0 victories against Croatia in 1996, Germany in 2000 and Hungary in 2021.

Portugal have also won their opening two games of the Euros for the first time since achieving the feat at the 2008 tournament.

Incidentally, they have beaten the same two teams as they did in 2008 when they began the competition with a 2-0 win over Turkey and a 3-1 victory against the Czech Republic.

Having sealed their place in the last 16, Roberto Martinez‘s side will attempt to finish the group with a 100% record when they face Georgia on Wednesday.
