Manchester United transfer news: Red Devils ‘relaxed’ over future of wonderkid

Manchester United reportedly have no concerns over the future of Kobbie Mainoo amid claims that Barcelona are keen to sign him.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United allegedly have no concerns over the future of Kobbie Mainoo amid claims that Barcelona are keen to sign him during this summer’s transfer window.

The 19-year-old proved to be a vital player for the Red Devils during the 2023-24 campaign, making 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and registering one assist in the process.

Mainoo’s current deal at Old Trafford is due to run until June 2027, although it has been claimed that the club are keen to enter into discussions with him over an extension, which would include a pay rise.

Barcelona are said to be keeping a close eye on the England international’s future, with the Catalan outfit already believed to have been in touch to make their interest known.

A recent report claimed that the La Liga giants would be willing to offer Raphinha in a part-exchange for Mainooo, who is currently with the England squad at the European Championship.

Man United ‘relaxed’ when it comes to Mainoo’s future

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, Man United are ‘relaxed’ when it comes to the midfielder’s future at Old Trafford.

The report claims that the Red Devils have made Mainoo unsellable this summer, with the club not willing to listen to any offers for their academy product.

Man United are not thought be in any real rush to open talks over a new deal, although a strong Euro 2024 campaign for England could lead to discussions being accelerated.

Mainoo’s current deal was signed in February 2023, at a point when he had only made two first-team appearances, but the midfielder has since become one of the first names on Erik ten Hag‘s team sheet.

Is a departure for Mainoo possible?

It is difficult to imagine any scenario where Man United would be willing to let Mainoo leave this summer.

The youngster ended last season by scoring in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, while he managed three goals and one assist in 24 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils.

Barcelona’s financial issues makes a move for Mainoo this summer even more unlikely, with the Catalan outfit unable to place the sort of money on the table that would be required for Man United to even be remotely interested in discussing the possibility of an exit.

Mainoo also seemingly has no desire to leave, having said earlier this week that he is looking forward to again playing under Ten Hag at Old Trafford next season.

Ex-England defender Danny Mills has told Sports Mole that Mainoo should be introduced into the Three Lions XI at Euro 2024 as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
