How Hungary could line up against Scotland

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Hungary could line up for Sunday’s Euro 2024 clash with Scotland.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Holding only the slightest chance of reaching Euro 2024‘s knockout phase, Hungary must beat Scotland in Stuttgart on Sunday evening and then hope to progress via a third-place finish in Group A.

Still without a point, Marco Rossi‘s men may need a minor miracle to avoid ending their campaign at the group stage, but they have nothing to lose and could introduce some fresh blood into their starting lineup.

Rossi tends to stick with his trusted 3-4-2-1 formation – which helped produce a run of just one loss from 15 games before travelling to Germany – so his squad could be shuffled following back-to-back defeats.

Of course, captain Dominik Szoboszlai is undroppable in an attacking midfield role, while Willi Orban – who has made more successful passes than any of his teammates at Euro 2024 – is a certain starter in central defence.

However, Bendeguz Bolla could possibly make way for fit-again Loic Nego on the right flank, while Callum Styles is challenging for a place in the Magyars’ engine room.

Up front, South Korea-based striker Martin Adam has only been offered a couple of cameo appearances thus far, but he will vie with Barnabas Varga – scorer of Hungary’s goal against Switzerland – to lead the attack.

Meanwhile, Peter Gulacsi won his duel with Denes Dibusz to take the goalkeeper’s jersey just before the finals kicked off, and Rossi is unlikely to make a change between the posts at this stage.

Hungary possible starting lineup: Gulacsi; Fiola, Orban, Dardai; Nego, A. Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez; Sallai, Szoboszlai; Varga
