How Belgium could line up against Slovakia

Sports Mole looks at how Belgium could line up in their opening Euro 2024 fixture with Slovakia.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Belgium are expected to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation against Slovakia on Monday, with the Red Devils bidding to make the perfect start to their Euro 2024 campaign.

The line will be led by Romelu Lukaku, who is the country’s all-time leading goalscorer with 85, and the 31-year-old is capable of being a serious force at this summer’s tournament.

Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard is also set to be an important player for Belgium this summer, in addition to Manchester City duo Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne, with the pair also set to start on Monday.

Head coach Domenico Tedesco has decisions to make in midfield, but it is likely that Amadou Onana and Orel Mangala will feature as the central two, with Timothy Castagne operating as the right-sided wing-back.

Belgium have injury problems at the back, with Thomas Meunier, Jan Vertonghen and Arthur Theate all potentially missing out against Slovakia due to fitness issues.

As a result, it is possible that Maxim De Cuyper, who has made just two appearances for his national team, will feature in the back three.

Axel Witsel is also expected to operate in defence, while Thibaut Courtois‘s absence from the squad means that Koen Casteels, who plays his club football in Saudi Arabia, is the country’s number one goalkeeper.

Belgium possible starting lineup: Casteels; Faes, Witsel, De Cuyper; Castagne, Mangala, Onana, Doku; Trossard, Lukaku; De Bruyne
