Manchester United among teams ‘chasing Watford midfielder’

Manchester United are allegedly among a wide range of clubs who hold an interest in signing a Watford midfielder during the summer transfer window.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United are reportedly one of many teams to have identified Watford midfielder Yaser Asprilla as a summer transfer target.

On Tuesday evening, the saga involving the future of head coach Erik ten Hag finally came to an end with widespread reports indicating that the Dutchman would be remaining in the dugout.

United’s footballing operations team are seemingly prepared to hand Ten Hag a stay of execution courtesy of his FA Cup triumph and failure to attract a suitable alternative.

Focus will now shift to trying to acquire the players that the club feel are capable of strengthening the first-team squad, the aim being to secure a return to the top four in the Premier League standings.

Numerous players – mostly young with potential – have been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford, yet it appears that little progress has been made in their efforts to make a notable addition.

Man United consider Asprilla move

While interest in certain players will not come as a surprise, supporters may be taken aback by United being credited as admirers in a Championship midfielder.

According to Colombian journalist Guillermo Arango, who was commenting on X, United have placed Asprilla on a list of potential targets.

The 20-year-old has just enjoyed a productive campaign in the second tier of English football, contributing six goals and seven assists from 28 starts and 16 substitute outings.

Asprilla – the son of former Newcastle United striker Faustino – has now made 86 appearances across two seasons, but there is just one more year remaining on his contract.

Despite his time in the Championship, Asprilla is already making an impression with Colombia, contributing two goals from his four appearances thus far.

Who else is interested?

Arango claims that Champions League runner-ups Borussia Dortmund are among seven teams from four different nations who are interested in Asprilla.

Brighton & Hove Albion – who did business with Watford last year regarding Joao Pedro – are also monitoring the situation, as are AC Milan and Bologna.

Spanish duo Real Sociedad and Real Betis are said to be admirers, although it remains to be seen whether any club will be prepared to meet Watford’s alleged asking price.

The Hornets are ready to demand in the region of £30m, despite Asprilla having never played in one of European football’s top divisions.
