Antoine Griezmann has said that he wants to become “a legend” at Atletico Madrid, with the forward ruling out a move to Manchester United next year.

The 32-year-old has been in strong form for Diego Simeone‘s side during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring 12 goals and registering one assist in 16 appearances in all competitions.

There has recently been speculation surrounding his future, though, with Man United believed to be keen to secure his services in 2024.

A recent report claimed that there is a £22m release clause in Griezmann’s contract, which Erik ten Hag‘s side were preparing to activate in an attempt to sign him.

However, it has since been claimed that the France international is not interested in leaving Wanda Metropolitano at this stage of his career.

Griezmann has now revealed that he wants to become “a legend” at Atletico, ruling out a move away from the club when asked about the speculation surrounding his future.

“I have to earn myself to be a legend in this club,” Griezmann told Marca. “That’s my mission. By 2024 I want to bring joy to the fans and some title for Atletico. It would be a dream.”

Atletico are currently fourth in the La Liga table, six points behind leaders Girona with a game in hand.

The Red and Whites are also in a strong position to reach the knockout round of the Champions League, sitting top of Group E, boasting eight points from their opening four games in the section.

Griezmann previously represented Atletico between 2014 and 2019 before moving to Barcelona, and he then returned to the capital giants in 2021, initially on loan.

The forward has scored 169 goals and registered 77 assists in 357 appearances for Atletico in all competitions, winning the Spanish Super Cup, Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in the process.

Griezmann only managed to win the Copa del Rey during his time at Barcelona, meanwhile, managing just 35 goals and 17 assists in 102 matches for the Catalan side.

Man United are expected to move for a new striker next year, potentially in January if the right opportunity arrives, but head coach Ten Hag was coy about the team’s search for a forward when questioned on the matter during his press conference on Friday.

Griezmann, who has another three years left to run on his contract at Atletico, has previously expressed a desire to finish his career in the MLS.
