Manchester United ‘to block January offers for Antony’

Manchester United reportedly have no intention of entertaining any offers for Antony during the January transfer window.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United reportedly intend to keep faith in Antony for the remainder of the season.

Much was expected of the winger when he arrived at Old Trafford in an £84m deal from Ajax in August 2022.

However, as is stands, the deal has proven to be one of the most wasteful in Premier League history, the Brazil international having failed to make a sustained impression.

Just four goals and two assists have been recorded in 34 top-flight outings, with his other four strikes and one assist coming across three different cup competitions.

Head coach Erik ten Hag has continued to select the 23-year-old on a regular basis during 2023-24, with 492 minutes of football coming in the league.

Nevertheless, Antony has failed to contributed a single goal or assist during those games, resulting in his omission from the starting lineup for the last two matches in all competitions.

Antony played the final quarter of Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Luton Town, but only injuries are likely to lead to a recall after the November international break.

There have been suggestions that Brazilian club Flamengo hold an interest in negotiating a temporary arrangement with United in an effort for Antony to recapture his best form.

Instead, according to Football Insider, United have no interest in cutting their losses with Antony at this stage of his United career.

The report claims that Ten Hag remains a fan of the player and will seemingly continue to use him with United currently still active in two competitions and the FA Cup to come after Christmas.

United are already in a position where they are a winger down due to Jadon Sancho‘s impasse with Ten Hag over a disagreement that they had over his form and commitment at the start of September.

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri are United’s other recognised wide options, while Amad Diallo may soon return from injury to come into contention.

Antony still has a contract with United until the end of the 2026-27 campaign, the club also having the option of extending those terms by a further 12 months.
